1. Scope
This policy applies to:
- Authors submitting manuscripts to Unicorn journals.
- Editors, reviewers, and editorial staff using AI in the publication process.
- Any AI-assisted tools used for writing, data analysis, or research presentation.
2. Use of AI in Manuscripts
- Authors must disclose any use of AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, GPT-4, or other generative AI) in the preparation of the manuscript.
Acceptable AI use:
- Language polishing, grammar checking, and formatting assistance.
- Summarizing existing data or literature with proper citation.
- Supporting statistical analysis or generating non-original content clearly identified as AI-assisted.
Prohibited AI use:
- AI-generated content presented as the author’s original work without disclosure.
- Fabricating data, images, or references using AI.
- Using AI to manipulate peer review or editorial decisions.
3. Authorship & Accountability
- AI tools cannot be listed as authors.
- Authors remain fully responsible for the content, accuracy, and integrity of their manuscripts.
- Human authors must verify all AI-assisted content for correctness and originality.
4. Peer Review and Editorial Use of AI
- Editors and reviewers may use AI tools to assist in manuscript assessment, plagiarism detection, or language improvement.
- AI-assisted reviews must remain confidential and unbiased.
- Editors must ensure AI outputs do not replace critical human judgment.
5. Transparency & Disclosure
- Authors must include a statement in their manuscript if AI tools were used, specifying the purpose and extent of AI assistance.
6. Ethical Considerations
- AI use must adhere to COPE, Elsevier, and Scopus standards for integrity, originality, and reproducibility.
- Misuse of AI that compromises scientific integrity may result in manuscript rejection, withdrawal, or retraction.
7. Compliance with Indexing Standards
- Unicorn ensures that all AI disclosures and ethical practices comply with Scopus indexing requirements.
- AI-generated content must not undermine originality, credibility, or traceability of scholarly work.
